While at KU, they had the pleasure of singing in the select Collegium Musicum Chorus directed by former Kings Singer, Simon Carrington. They were a soloist and chorister through Southern France with his touring choir. During this time they participated in a Master Class with the Grammy Award Winning, Anonymous Four.
Magellan has taught in public, private and independant schools in the Midwest and New England. Their most recent full time teaching position was at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH where they had the pleasure of collaborating with former Artistic Director of Revels North, Maureen Burford and Hanover Footlighters Director Terry Samwick. Magellan is currently the Performing Arts teacher at Sharon and First Branch Elementary schools in the White River Valley Supervisory Union in East Central Vermont.
In 2018 Magellan starred as Marco in the Revels North production A Venetian celebration of the Solstice, was Assistant Director of the children's choir under Nils Fredland and managed social media. They performed with the Vermont Chamber Artists for four seasons and were a founding member of the social justice chorus, Voices 21c with whom they toured Israel, Palestine and was an artist in residence at the Choralp festival in Briancon, France. In Kansas City they sang with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus and Octarium as well as performing the duties of alto section leader at St. Andrews Epicopal.
Magellan is currently a member of the highly acclaimed liturgical choir, Second Spring, under the direction of Katherine Yost as well as recording with the Magnificat Institute for Paul Jernberg.
Magellan is well known in the Upper Valley for their deeply moving children's choir productions at the various schools where they taught. The process of bringing young singers and their passion to new audiences led to the creation of the climate activist chorus, the Adventure Kids Choir. Check out their website for more information. adventurekidschoir.org. 2023 brings an exciting collaboration at Sharon Elementary School to retool their legacy production of The Lorax in conjunction with the environmental law students at the Vermont Law School.
As a private teacher, Magellan teaches on the second floor of the train station in White River Junction, VT just a hop, skip and jump from Northern Stage, The Briggs Opera House, The Villages Recital Hall and The Main Street Museum. Magellan mixes Chakra meditation and chanting, Qi Gong and Breath work into the studio to help young singers fully experience their instruments.
Magellan maintained her studio 100% online during the Covid crisis and is eager to serve young singers as a mentor, teacher and vocal coach with regular weekly lessons. Bringing in experts in different song styles, MLH Studio designs master classes that expand a singers repertoire. In 2019 the singers worked with Celtic multi-instrumentalists and singers from the Sean Heely Trio.
Studio lessons use recorded accompaniments during practice sessions which was the standard practice during the Covid Crisis. Through Zoom, lessons are easily managed using the My Music Staff parent and student portals. The online site lessons are easily scheduled, invoiced and notes are accessible.
