Megan Helm has been teaching children and teens to sing for over 15 years.  She was a child performer in St. Louis and grew up singing and dancing.  She has studied Musical Theater and Theater at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, Early Music and Voice Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory and Music Education with a vocal specialization at the University of Kansas.

While at KU, she had the pleasure of singing in the select Collegium Musicum Chorus directed by former Kings Singer, Simon Carrington.  She was a soloist and chorister through Southern France with his touring choir. During this time she participated in a Master Class with the Grammy Award Winning Anonymous Four and the Kansas City Chorale.

Megan has taught in Public, Private and Independant schools in the Midwest and New England.  Her most recent full time teaching position was at Crossroads Academy in Lyme, NH where she had the pleasure of collaborating with former Artistic Director of Revels North, Maureen Burford. She continues to teach part time at Open Fields School in Thetford, VT where she helps prepare students for their Annual Medieval Festival which draws large crowds to the green in May.

In 2018 Megan starred as Marco in the Revels North production A Venetian celebration of the Solstice and managed their social media. She performed with the Vermont Chamber Artists for four seasons and was a founding member of the social justice chorus, Voices 21c with whom she toured Israel, Palestine and was an artist in residence at the Choralp festival in Briancon, France.

Mrs Helm developed a reputation for her deeply moving productions at the various schools where she taught. The process of bringing young singers and their passion to new audiences led to the creation of The climate activist chorus, the Adventure Kids Choir.  Check out their website for more information.

As a private teacher, Megan has kept a fun studio on the second floor of the train station in White River Junction, VT just a hop, skip and jump from Northern Stage, The Briggs Opera House and Open Door Studio.  Megan mixes Chakra meditation and chanting, Qi Gong and Breath work into the studio to help young singers fully experience their instruments.  Singing is emotional and mentally challenging as well as physical.  We are our instruments but there is still time for playing games and goofing around.

Teenaged students at MLH Studio Vocal can compete for prize money in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Auditions three times a year.  This year ALL singers can also work toward their Royal Conservatory of Music certification through test preparation with Megan.  The youngest students get to work through the highly acclaimed Full Voice Curriculum and SingUP partnership.

Megan maintains her studio 100% online during the covid crisis and is eager to serve young singers as a mentor, teacher and vocal coach.  Bringing in experts in different song styles, MLH Studio designs Master Classes that expand a singers repertoire.  In 2019 the singers worked with Celtic multi-instrumentalists and singers from the Sean Heely Trio.

She uses recorded accompaniments during practice sessions which is the standard practice during the Covid Crisis. Through Zoom, lessons are easily managed. By using the My Music Staff parent and student portals, lessons are easily scheduled, invoiced and notes are accessible.
